~ Shweta in Chandigarth ~Fixed My Computer & Brightened My Day.
Yesterday I had occasion to contact Dell tech support online as my new printer/scanner was not working properly. What I thought might be an ordeal, turned out to be the highlight of my day. I was so impressed by the friendly manner of my Dell Representative, whose name was Shweta. While we were waiting for files to download, I asked if Shweta was in Hyderbad, as I recalled reading in 'Planet India' that Hyderbad is known as the second Silicon Valley. As it turns out, Shweta was in Chandigarh. I mentioned that I was reading 'One Night @ the Call Center' and she replied that she also read this book and found it enjoyable. I responded that reading it gave me a better appreciation for the work she was doing in helping computer-ignorant Amerikans like myself ;-) She responded with a :) and said it was her pleasure to help me. As we waited for a large file to download before she could install it to my computer, we had a lovely chat as she graciously answered my many questions about India and exchanged opinions about books and other topics until the file download was complete. What could have remained a dull and silent interlude turned into a delightful interaction with this highly efficient, enormously courteous and friendly person half way across the planet. After Shweta solved my computer/printer problem, I was almost sad that our chat had to end. I was most pleased, however, when she asked if I would be willing to take an extra minute while she transferred me to her supervisor, who would like to know if there was anything she could have done better to serve my needs. With great pleasure, I assured the supervisor that Shweta could not have done anything better as her assistance was perfect in every way. My computer problem turned out to be the most enjoyable part of my day. Thank you Shweta... Dell is lucky to have you! http://technorati.com/claim/9wxqvhd3jk" rel="me">Technorati Profile

Free Documentary Films
I want to share the most important website I have discovered in a very long time. http://www.freedocumentaries.org/ has a long list of the most thought provoking, insightful documentary films available.. free to watch at your convenience. The list is too long for me to include here, but you will be astonished at what you will find... some of the most important documentaries anywhere..
I happened upon FreeDocumentaries.org while searching for documentary films about India, and found "The Slow Poisoning of India". Half way into this disturbing film I noticed a very tiny message at the top of the screen which read: "If you like this film please donate". I live on a poverty level income and $10. goes a long way with me, but I didn't hesitate for a moment in making a donation. The folks who make these life-altering films available to the public are providing a public service that is priceless.
Here are some I have watched and recommend... and this is only taste of what you will find:
"Born Into Brothels"
SLAVERY: A GLOBAL INVESTIGATION
DISPATCHES: MARK THOMAS ON COCA-COLA
I have been riveted to my screen since watching the first film. Check it out, and do donate if you feel compelled to do so. This is an extraordinary effort to raise public awareness on important issues today.
Namaste,
Lucille

Medical Treatment in India
I love listening to radio documentaries while at the computer and often search for stories about India. Recently I happened upon this very interesting program about people traveling to India for medical treatment.
The treatment I have received for several years in the USA has been a travesty, at least in relation to the injury caused by my cosmetic surgery, which encompass all of my medical conditions. I have been meet with denial and deceit at every turn the so-called "best surgeons" in this country.
The more I searched the Internet for information about patients having surgery in India, the more my hope is rekindled in thinking that this may be the only way I will ever get the chance to be treated in an unbiased manner. I am just beginning my research, but would appreciate opinions of my iLand friends if you have any information to share with me about the best hospitals, etc. My surgery would require a plastic surgeon with special skills in ENT/head/neck surgery, as my problems are not cosmetic but functional.
I did not realize until hearing this radio documentary and following the Internet path from there that people from all over the world travel to India for medical treatment and all the information I found to date is overwhelmingly positive. Every patient testimony I read expresses a tremendous difference in the way they were treated by medical professionals in India compared to the US. They all said Indian doctors and nurses were far more dedicated and truly interested in the well being of the patient. I have spent the past 3 days conducting this research online and have not found a single patient reporting a negative experience.
This makes me feel hopeful. I just hope I have not waited too late and have the physical strength to manage the needful things to make this happen.
